How We Review & Rank Online Casinos

Our 8-dimension, evidence-based scoring framework — built specifically for Malaysian players. Every casino we assess is measured against the same published criteria, with documented evidence behind every score.

Our Editorial Standards

Every casino featured on me88.ai is assessed using the same documented framework — Casino Review Scoring Framework v1.0 — so ratings can be compared fairly across platforms. This page explains exactly how we test, score and re-audit each operator. We publish our criteria, weighting and evidence requirements in full so any reader can verify how a rating was reached.

Scope of this framework: Casino and sports betting platform reviews, and Top 10 comparison pages.  Does not apply to: slot game reviews · bonus deal pages · Casino Wiki / informational content.

Who Reviews These Casinos

Our reviews are produced by our editorial team and signed off by Anthony Tang, who leads casino evaluations for the Malaysian market. Each published review carries a named reviewer and a “Last audited” date so you can see who stands behind the assessment and how current it is.

We’re Operated by me88 — And We Say So

me88.ai is owned and operated by me88 Malaysia — as stated in our Framework v1.0, Section 2.1. We are transparent about this because it matters: we have a commercial interest in players choosing me88. To keep our reviews credible, we apply three safeguards:

  • One ruleset for everyone. me88 is scored on the same 8 dimensions, weights and rubric anchors as every competitor we review. Competitor platforms may receive higher scores than me88 in any dimension where the evidence supports it.
  • Published criteria. Because the scoring formula is fixed and public (see below), a favourable score for any platform — including our own — has to be earned against the same rubric anchors.
  • Visible disclosure. Our ownership, how we earn revenue, and all commercial relationships are disclosed on every page via the mandatory Operator Disclosure block.
Operator Disclosure: me88.ai earns revenue through player referrals to platforms on this site, including me88 which we operate. Commercial relationships do not alter the dimension weights, rubric anchors, or final score — Framework v1.0 is applied identically to every casino, ours included. All commercial links carry rel="sponsored".

Our 8 Rating Dimensions & Weights

Each platform is evaluated across 8 dimensions. Weights are fixed and reflect Malaysian player priorities. Scores are assigned in 0.5 increments only (1.0, 1.5 … 5.0). Quarter-points are not permitted.

IDDimensionWeightPrimary Signal
D1Licensing & Regulatory Compliance15%Player protection (licence verifiability)
D2Bonus Fairness & Wagering Terms15%Bonus value (turnover fairness)
D3Payment Methods & Withdrawal Speed ★20%Transaction speed & MY payment coverage
D4Game Library & Software Quality15%Provider credibility & game depth
D5Mobile Experience & Accessibility10%Mobile-first access & language support
D6Security & Platform Transparency10%HTTPS / SSL / operator transparency
D7Customer Support Quality10%Live chat responsiveness (real-tested)
D8Responsible Gambling Compliance5%Self-exclusion & deposit limit tools

★ D3 carries the highest weight because withdrawal speed and local payment support are the primary decision factors for Malaysian players. D8’s lowest weight reflects audience behaviour — not lower ethical importance.

Overall Score Labels & Recommendations

After the weighted score is calculated, the platform receives one of five labels. These labels govern the recommendation language used throughout the review.

4.5 – 5.0ExceptionalTop Pick for Malaysian Players
4.0 – 4.4RecommendedSolid Choice
⚠️3.0 – 3.9AverageProceed with Awareness
2.0 – 2.9Below StandardNot Recommended
🚫< 2.0AvoidSerious Concerns Identified

⚠️

D8 = 1.0 — Mandatory Warning Callout (verbatim copy required)
This platform does not meet responsible gambling standards. We do not recommend it to players who may be at risk.
This callout must appear in the review body regardless of the platform’s overall score. All platforms must score ≥ 2.0 on D8 to be listed on me88.ai.

How We Calculate the Final Score

The Weighted Formula

Overall Score = (D1 × 0.15) + (D2 × 0.15) + (D3 × 0.20) + (D4 × 0.15)
+ (D5 × 0.10) + (D6 × 0.10) + (D7 × 0.10) + (D8 × 0.05)

N/A Dimension Handling

When a dimension cannot be independently audited, it is recorded as N/A — never estimated or inferred from third-party claims alone. N/A dimensions are removed from the formula, and the remaining weights are proportionally renormalized so that they still sum to 100%.

Score Increment & Rounding Rules

0.5
Minimum score increment per dimension
(1.0, 1.5 … 5.0 only)
1 dp
Final overall score rounded to one decimal (e.g. 3.85 → 3.9)
N/A
Valid when dimension cannot be independently audited — always document reason

Malaysian Market Benchmarks

All scoring anchors are calibrated to the Malaysian iGaming market. These benchmarks determine rubric anchor placement for D2, D3, and D4.

Dimension-by-Dimension Testing Protocol

Every dimension requires a specific type of evidence before a score can be assigned. Scores that lack required evidence are not publishable. Where testing is impossible, the dimension is recorded as N/A with a documented reason.

D1
Licensing & Regulatory Compliance
15%

Trustworthiness anchor. Scores what can be independently verified — not what the platform claims.

Required Evidence

Screenshot of footer licence badge + URL of verification link checked on audit date. Cross-check on issuing authority’s public database (PAGCOR, MGA, Curacao).

D2
Bonus Fairness & Wagering Terms
15%

MY benchmark: x25 = industry average. Below x20 = player-friendly. Above x35 = restrictive.

Required Evidence

Screenshot of bonus T&C page with turnover requirement visible + audit date. Confirm: applied to bonus only, or deposit + bonus combined?

D3
Payment Methods & Withdrawal Speed ★
20%

Highest weight. DuitNow = must-have. Real deposit→withdrawal cycle required. Platform-stated speed claims do not score positively without T1 evidence.

Required Evidence

Transaction screenshot or screen-recording with timestamps showing full deposit → withdrawal cycle. Record: method, amount, elapsed time at each stage.

D4
Game Library & Software Quality
15%

Tier-1 Providers (MY): Evolution, Pragmatic Play, PG Soft, Microgaming, Spadegaming, Playtech. Localized content (Mahjong Ways, Dragon Tiger) earns higher scores.

Required Evidence

Screenshot of game lobby showing provider filter/labels. Note: if library cannot be accessed without KYC deposit, record as N/A.

D5
Mobile Experience & Accessibility
10%

MY context: majority mobile-first, Android dominant. Native app or well-optimised PWA required for 4.0+. WhatsApp-native UX expectation is high.

Required Evidence

Screenshot on a real device. Note: OS version, device model, network type (4G/WiFi), load time measured.

D6
Security & Platform Transparency
10%

Covers HTTPS enforcement, SSL grade, operator identity disclosure, and privacy policy adequacy. SSL grade A/A+ required for 5.0.

Required Evidence

SSL Labs grade URL recorded (ssllabs.com/ssltest/) + browser padlock screenshot + licence badge status + operator name disclosure check.

D7
Customer Support Quality
10%

Tests real live-chat response time. Bot routing is penalised; human agent speed is the key metric. < 3 min human response = 5.0.

Required Evidence

Screenshot of live chat showing exact timestamp of first message sent and first human-agent response received.

D8
Responsible Gambling Compliance
5%

Low weight reflects audience behaviour — not ethical importance. Min: ≥ 2.0 to be listed. Score of 1.0 triggers mandatory warning callout regardless of overall score.

Required Evidence

Navigate to RG tools page / account settings. Screenshot available features: deposit limits, self-exclusion, session timer, local resource links.

Evidence Standards

Every score requires a corresponding evidence record. A score without evidence is not publishable. All evidence is classified into three tiers:

TierLabelDefinitionScoring Rule
T1First-HandDirectly obtained via real-device testing, screenshot, or raw T&C extractionDirectly scores the dimension
T2Platform-StatedClaimed by the platform on its own site or marketing materialsNoted in writing but does not score positively; may score negatively if contradicted by T1
T3Third-Party ResearchSourced from independent review sites, regulator databases, or news sourcesRegulatory evidence (e.g. MGA blacklisting) = T1-equivalent for D1 and D6. Otherwise secondary only.

Pre-Publication Checklist

Run before every review is submitted for publication. All items must be checked. This checklist maps directly to Framework v1.0 Section 8.

Independence & Commercial Disclosure

me88.ai earns revenue through player referrals to platforms on this site, including me88 which we operate. These commercial relationships are disclosed on every page. They do not change the dimension weights, rubric anchors, or final score — Framework v1.0 is applied identically to every casino, ours included.

Most casino “review” sites present themselves as neutral, independent third parties while being quietly funded by affiliate commissions they don’t disclose. We take the opposite approach: we tell you upfront exactly where we stand and how we make money. We think that’s a fairer deal than being lied to about independence.

When we feature me88, you’re reading about our own platform — we say so clearly, every time. When we review a competitor, we apply the same published criteria we use for everyone. When a link earns us a commission, it’s disclosed — no hidden affiliate IDs dressed up as “editor’s choice.”

Disagree With a Rating?

If you believe a rating is out of date or inaccurate, or you have first-hand evidence — such as a withdrawal dispute, a verified licence change, or a documented support failure — tell us through our Trust & Feedback Center.
